Sometimes, I'm asked to shoot "just a cover".  Sometimes, I'm asked to shoot the entire interior, typically for a craft book. 

 

"On location?" (my preference) or "In the studio?" (do-able, but more limited). 

 

"Whatever!  Let's make some pretty shots that convey the author's intentions and show the projects in their best light."
